Sam Marchiano, adjunct faculty at the Tisch Institute for Global Sport, is a journalist and advocate. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, the New York Daily News among others. Marchiano is a founding member of the Board of Directors of both Equality League, a new non-profit advancing women’s rights, and Athlete Ally, which is focused on ending homophobia and transphobia in sports by educating and motivating the athletic community to take a stand.  Marchiano was a central figure in Major League Baseball’s embrace of LGBT inclusion beginning in 2013 and until 2015, served as Athlete Ally’s Outreach Director.
During her broadcasting career at ESPN, FOX, MLB.com, Sportschannel, and  MSG Network, Marchiano covered every major sport and was nominated for four Emmys. She also created three documentaries, including the award-winning MLB Network’s Base Ball Discovered.
